The Nottingham Post reported that the Sunday Times has retracted its claims that the town of Nottingham has a “high crime rate” after complaints from readers to the UK Press Complaints Commission.   UKCities.co.uk reports that Nottingham has a population of about 285,000.

Two columnists in the Sunday Times had stated that Nottingham had “‘shocking’ crime statistics” and “the highest violent crime rate” in England.

According to the retraction, Nottingham’s crime rate has actually fallen “by 50 per cent from 2002-2003 to the year ending” this past February.
