Anti-Semitic Tweets Posted on BBC Twitter by Syrian Electronic Army

Fake “political, anti-Semitic and comical” tweets were posted by hackers on “several BBC Twitter accounts’ last week, the Associated Press reported.

Hacking group the Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility for the hack and for posting the tweets which the BBC characterized as “unacceptable,” according to the AP.  One of the tweets posted was “Long Live Syria Al-Assad.”

According to a tweet posted by the Syrian Electronic Army, the group hacked the following accounts: @BBCArabicOnline, @BBCWeather, and @BBCRadioUlster.

French news agency Agence France-Presse’s Twitter account @AFPphoto was hacked last month by the Syrian Electronic Army, as iMediaEthics wrote at the time. The Syrian Electronic Army also said it hacked Al Jazeera’s “mobile service” last fall.
