A post about actress Zooey Deschanel on Yahoo News was either mangled by copy editing, a lack of pop culture knowledge or a failure to fact check.

The April 10 post, originally from ABC News but re-published on Yahoo News, said that “Deschanel filed for divorce from husband Death Cab, throwing him over for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard.”

However, Yahoo News split up Gibbard’s band in its post.  Gibbard is the frontman for the band Death Cab for Cutie.  And, Deschanel didn’t file for divorce from her husband for … her husband…

The post now correctly reads that “Deschanel filed for divorce from husband and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard in January,” Slate, which has a screenshot of the error, noted.

But, there’s no note on the Yahoo News post explaining what went wrong, or disclosing the fix.  We’ve written to Yahoo News asking about this error and why there’s no correction.
