The Montreal Gazette and its sister newspapers owned by Postmedia now have new Community Guidelines for online comments.

Now, readers can “flag offending comments” and vote on comments. Community guidelines call for civility, transparency and respect; users are told not to troll or make personal attacks. “Hate speech, libel, inciting violence and known trolls” may be permanently banned, but off-topic or personal attacks may get a user briefly banned.

Postmedia news outlets are now using a moderation platform called Viaforua that will “use a combination of human and AI moderation.”
