Three journalists, a philosopher, a film director and a historian have been named to Poland's new Civil Commission of Media Ethics, according to the Sunday Catholic Weekly.

The commission was created in response to "the general indifference towards the idea of work for the public welfare in media, both among journalists and institutions which direct mass media," the Sunday Catholic Weekly reported.

The council listed several goals including addressing ethical violations, upholding freedom of speech and criticizing "unworthy behaviours in media."

According to Polskie Radio, the group argue that the mainstream media has "become a subcontractor of tasks imposed by the various interest groups."

The commission members are Teresa Bochwic, Tomasz Bieszczad, Anna t. Pietraszek, Fr. Roman Piwowarczyk, Ewa Stankiewicz and Kan Zaryn, according to the Sunday Catholic Weekly.
