The Indonesian Press Council called for the media to avoid biased reporting on the upcoming July elections, the Jakarta Post reported

Press Council member Agus Sudibyo advised that the media "fairly and equally" report, keep "political campaigning" out of the news, and separate news versus editorial, according to the Jakarta Post.

Similarly, the Alliance of Independent Journalists' Umar Idris said the AJI "will monitor the media's independence in reporting the Jakarta elections" and provide its research to the Press Council and the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission.
