Editor & Publisher reported that News International’s servers were “attacked” June 23 by hackers. The attack reportedly was “in retaliation” after News International-owned newspaper the UK Sun reported on hacking group LulzSec, the group that notably hacked into PBS’ website last month and posted a fake story about Tupac Shakur being alive in New Zealand.

According to Editor & Publisher, the attack was a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which was used last fall by the hacking group Anonymous to conduct cyber-attacks against “organizations deemed hostile to [Julian Assange] and WikiLeaks.”
